Parish Plan Q & A
What is a Parish Plan?
As part of the Vital Villages programme instigated by the Countryside Agency, a parish plan is a document produced by a village outlining its various needs. It is an accepted format for Parish Councils to use when applying for grants, which can cover areas such as village hall improvements, community transport, and arts development.
The development of the plan is intended to be holistic, ensuring that everyone in the village has the opportunity to provide input on all aspects of village life.
How did Blaxhall become involved?
In early 2003, a public meeting was held with Annette Gray from Suffolk ACRE. A majority of those present voted in favor of developing a plan, and a Steering Committee was formed to collate the necessary information.
What was required from residents?
Residents were asked to share their comments and views on the needs and future of Blaxhall. Every view was considered valid, including the opinion that the village was already perfect as it was.
Why was it worthwhile?
The process cost the parish very little, relying primarily on volunteer hours. The final document proved valuable in securing funding for village hall improvements and other local schemes.
