Blaxhall Parish Council Newsletter

Spring 2002 No.41

Welcome to the Spring Edition of this riveting series. Written by Philip Dunnett.

Village Fete

This year's fete is to be held on Saturday 10th August, starting at 2.30pm. We will have the usual stalls, refreshments and entertainments. The organ will be back by popular demand. There will be numerous small games for you to try your hand at. The steam engine will be with us again and a small steam engine to give rides in addition to the pony rides.

We are planning an even better Grand draw than we had last year. So don't forget to buy the tickets, available soon from Clara Jenkins 688558. Please come along and have a great afternoon whilst raising much needed funds for the village. I would just like to remind you that the money from this event is divided equally between the Church, Village Hall and Playing Field.

Vegetable Show

Again this event is being run in conjunction with the fete. This year's show will also have some flower classes. So all you gardeners out there get planting and you could win some fantastic prizes. And may the best gardener win. For further details on the classes that could be included this year contact Maggie Grenham 689171.

Village Hall

The committee has great hopes of being successful in its attempts to obtain Lottery Funding. However, we will need all your help to prove a need for this facility. When the questionnaire is sent round please help us by filling it in, your input will make a difference. Lottery Funding does take a long while to come through, in the mean time the committee would like to take this opportunity to beg you to support the fundraising that will continue in the coming year. When this project is successfully completed, Blaxhall will have a village hall to be proud of.

Playing Field

At last, you may have noticed that the mound on the playing field has been covered with turf; this is a sure sign that the slide will soon be installed.

Car Boot

The Playing Field committee are pleased to be holding another car boot sale this year on Monday 3rd June on the Playing Field from 8am to 12 noon. The cost will be £5.00 per car. Refreshments will be available in the village hall.

The Queen's Golden Jubilee

It is hoped there will be some sort of get together and party atmosphere. This is to be discussed at the annual Parish Meeting. Details will be announced very shortly. Keep a watch on the Notice Boards.

The Common

With the recent warm dry weather, I would just like to remind all of you who walk and use the common to be aware of the increased risk of fire, and in this Spring season don't forget the nesting birds and other wildlife need this area to peacefully go about their annual breeding cycle. Just be careful where you tread. If you should find that a fire has started please ring 999 as soon as possible. If you would like to help maintain the common, there are working parties arranged by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust, and your help would be greatly appreciated. Please ring SWT on 01394 380113 or volunteer warden Terry Peake on 01728 746004 who will be pleased to point you in the right direction.

Meetings

Remember all Parish Council meetings and the Village Hall / Playing Field committee meetings are held in the village hall. Members of the public are welcome to attend to listen to what is said by whom and why. Most meetings also allow at some point the public to put there points forward. If you have any points you feel the council should know about please forward them in writing to Mrs J Iszard, Blaxhall Parish Council, Pack Gate Cottage, Mill Common, Blaxhall, Woodbridge, Suffolk. IP12 2ED. Help us to help you by communicating with each other, together we will make a better team, a better Blaxhall.

Drop-In Coffee Mornings

These have been changed from the third Tuesday to the fourth Tuesday of the month in the village hall from 10.30 to 12 noon. These have been proving very popular, so why not put the fourth Tuesday aside and try it.

Hedge Survey

Joyce Iszard would like to thank everyone at this initial meeting. We are the 69th village since 2000 to become involved. Rodney West will be writing to all those interested people shortly, explaining who, what and where.

Computer

This will be installed in the Youth Hostel, hopefully in the not too distant future. Information about the user times and the when, what and wherefore will all be worked out and information posted on the noticeboard.

Footpaths

All footpaths in the village are now open, we have been informed from DEFRA.

Parish Clerk

Joyce Iszard 688452. Parish Council meetings are now held on the first Wednesday of July, September, November, March, May. January is usually the second Wednesday but always check with the clerk.
