Blaxhall Village Newsletter

No 50 Summer 2004 Written by Philip Dunnett

It seems to have been a busy summer, lots to do, events to organise, all this to keep up a good community spirit within the parish.

To those involved with the organising of events a big thank you. The hard work you put in to make them the successes they always turn out to be is very much appreciated

To those that attend and give so generously you cannot be thanked enough.

WELL DONE EVERYONE.

VILLAGE HALL

The village hall committee have been very busy now for many months, putting together a lottery grant application, which unfortunately failed this time. This is normal procedure we are told, so a bit more work will have to be done on that application and hopefully it can be re presented and a happy outcome can be obtained

In the meantime fundraising is still going on, events of differing types are being tried in the hall. This is to encourage all members of the community to come along to something. Please come along when you can and help the village hall get its much needed revamp. Remember every little helps. YOUR VILLAGE HALL NEEDS YOU

Events in the pipeline: social evenings, quiz nights, film shows, dancing, the list could go on. If you have any good ideas for a village get together, please let us know.

Village Hall Committee Members:

Graham Bowles; Chairman
Stephen Smedley; Secretary
Joyce Iszard; Treasurer & Hall Booking
Viv & Malcolm Browne
Jasper Dickinson

Bob Mackenzie
Joy Shaw
David Pugh.

Regular events at your village hall include:

Monday evenings Bowls night
Thursday daytime Art group
Thursday evening Line dancing
Saturday Fundraising events in aid of Village Hall (once a month, watch Notice boards for details)

If you get really desperate for a night out you might consider coming along to the bi-monthly council meeting, first Wednesday of the month, Jan, Mar, May, July, Sept and Nov. All are welcome to attend Parish Council meetings, and we do give members of the public a chance to air their views. So why not come along and give us the benefit of your advice.

PLAYING FIELD

It has reluctantly been decided by the playing field committee to not allow people to play golf on the field. Not only can it be dangerous to other users of the playing field, the grass playing surface is being badly damaged by divots, which have not been replaced, this in places has gone on to encourage rabbits to enlarge the holes, which then increases the risk of injury to people using the field for other sporting events.

The Parish Council’s insurers have also expressed concern that golf has been tolerated and pointed out that the playing field is not insured so far as golf is concerned. So no more golf please.

BONFIRE NIGHT

Saturday 6th November. Venue: top end of playing field. Entry: by fireworks, which should be delivered to Ed Pipe at the Forge in the week before the day, so that we have a really good display this year. If you have material suitable for burning on the fire take it to the field after 10.00am on Saturday. Please drive round the edge of the field so as not to damage the grass. There will be soup, hot dogs and drinks in the Village Hall afterwards.

Children: make a really scary mask and win a prize.

KENNY FRENCH MEMORIAL

As you all know Kenny used to oversee the building of the bonfire during the day and then in the evening would take great pleasure in lighting it, for this reason it was decided to have a brazier built and erected that could be lit every year to remember him. Anyone wishing to make a donation towards this brazier please send to Parish Clerk Joyce Iszard, Packgate Cottage

PIT MAINTENANCE

This winter, we are planning to have two working parties to keep the pit as an attractive place for wildlife. Please come and join us on Saturday 15th January and 19th February at the pit at 10.00am and help us with this work. Bring any suitable tools for cutting and clearing.

FETE

Once again we had a very successful Fete and raised the magnificent sum of £2352. After taking £300 to pay for the 2 Marquees (which I am sure you have already seen in use in the village) the rest of the money has been divided equally between the Church, the Village Hall and the Playing Field. This success is entirely due to a lot of hard work by a great many dedicated people in the village. Thank you very much, to all those, who made such a big effort. You can all be very proud of yourselves. I am still looking for someone to organize the 2005 Fete so please think about offering your time for such a worthwhile event.

Playing Field Committee

Are you interested in our playing field? If so why not join the committee where there’s a vacancy needs to be filled! Interested? ring Clara Jenkins 688558

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

The Parish Council transport representative has asked that we point out that there is no longer a bus service going to Saxmundham, due to lack of use. Transport reps advice is. Please use the Woodbridge & Aldeburgh 181 service occasionally (even if you usually drive) so we do not lose this service as well.
